"300: Rise of An Empire" Charges to Top of Box Office

Courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures(NEW YORK) -- 300: Rise of An Empire debuted on top of the box office this weekend, raking in a whopping $45.05 million.

Gerard Butler does not appear in the sequel to his 2007 film 300, which instead features Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green and Lena Headey. The R-rated film features a clash between the Greek army, led by General Themistokles, and Persian forces led by Xerxes and Navy Commander Artemesia.

Mr. Peadbody & Sherman finished the weekend in second place, also in its first week in theaters. The film, starring a super-intelligent dog and his young human pal who were introduced in the 1960s Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon, stars Ty Burrell, Stephen Colbert, Patrick Warburton, Stanley Tucci and Allison Janney.

10. Ride Along: $2.004 million
