Michael Douglas Lied About His Cancer
(NEW YORK) -- Emmy-winning actor Michael Douglas lied about having throat cancer, he said in an interview on ITV's This Morning.
Douglas spoke with Samuel L. Jackson on the morning show and admitted that he was actually battling tongue cancer. He said that the recommendation to lie was made by his surgeon, because the actor was preparing for a promotional tour and tongue cancer can require surgery that would involve removing part of his jaw and tongue.
In June, Douglas told the U.K.'s The Guardian newspaper that he had contracted throat cancer as a result of having oral sex, a claim that his spokesperson later clarified by saying was not the cause of his cancer specifically.
Douglas, 69, was diagnosed with tongue cancer in August 2010. He says he has since recovered from the disease.
