Miley Says Split from Liam Hemsworth Hasn't Been Awkward for Her
(NEW YORK) -- Miley Cyrus has rehashed her MTV Video Music Awards performance many times in the six weeks since it aired, but she’s mostly kept quiet on her split from fiancé Liam Hemsworth -- until now.
Miley addressed the breakup on Friday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Ellen DeGeneres noted that she threw Miley an engagement party, featuring sexy male dancers, the last time the pop star was a guest on the show, which was November of last year. Miley joked, “Do you want your money back?”
Miley said the scrutiny that the breakup has received hasn't bothered her, telling Ellen, “It's not really as awkward because I'm living it, so I think people spend more time actually thinking about it than I really do, because I really believe when a chapter is done you have to close it and start a new one.”
Miley also said she's “impressed” with how people have focused more on her new music than on her relationship status. She added, “Because that's the only thing I worried about, was that I didn't want it to sacrifice what I've been working for, for just the attention to be on that."
Miley said her album, Bangerz, represents her journey with Liam. When asked if she keeps in touch with him, Miley sidestepped the question, again saying she’s trying to turn the page to a new chapter in her life. She declared that she is now the happiest she’s ever been.
Of course, Ellen did bring up Miley’s VMA twerk-fest and the backlash that ensued. Miley argued that no one mentions “the man behind the booty,” her onstage collaborator, Robin Thicke. She called it a “double standard,” adding that Robin wasn't caught off-guard during the live ceremony. She said, “He was in rehearsal as much as I was and loving it, people.”
In addition to the interview, Miley sang “Wrecking Ball” on Ellen.
