Area Litter Cleanup Events SuccessfulBoth Keep Salem Beautiful and Centralia Clean and Green held litter pickup events on Saturday. In Salem, about 70 gathered in Bryan Memorial Park. KSB's Jane Marshall says softballs, baseballs, fish skeletons, keyes and a number of other items were found.
"People turned out and were excited that it was a nice day. They picked up about 65 bags of trash and about a dozen bags of landscape waste from around the Bryan Statue Gardens" said Marshall.
The winner of the contest to design the T-shirt that was given away to participants in the cleanup was ten-year-old Selmaville fifth grader Gage Pontious.
In Centralia, Clean and Green Coordinator Bev Virobik says about 100 spread out across Fairview Park, the Fairview Shopping Center, along U.S. 51 and State Route 161 as well as Calumet Street to pick up litter. Over 2,000 tires were brought to Expert Tire as part of Tire Amnesty Day. Virobik is thankful to the One Hope United kids for assisting in the unloading of tires.
