Authorities Investigate Accident That Killed 3

LITCHFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Authorities are investigating an accident in southern Illinois that left a woman and two children dead.

Illinois State Police say a stalled or slow-moving vehicle was rear-ended Friday by a cargo van on Interstate 55 near Litchfield.  Those killed were identified as 27-year-old Alea Shannon, 8-year-old Alfredo McGee Jr. and 2-year-old Armondo McGee. They died at the scene. Other passengers in the car, a man and two other children, were hospitalized.

Macoupin County Coroner Brad Targhetta says the family had lived in Decatur before moving to East St. Louis.

The driver of the cargo van wasn't seriously injured.

Litchfield is about 55 miles northeast of St. Louis.
