Cardinal George in Hospital With Flu-Like SymptomsCHICAGO (AP) - A spokeswoman for the Archdiocese of Chicago says Cardinal Francis George is expected to be released from the hospital later this week after treatment for dehydration and flu-like symptoms.
Archdiocese spokeswoman Susan Burritt released a statement Tuesday morning with an update on George, who's been at Loyola University Medical Center in suburban Maywood since Friday.
Burritt says George's flu symptoms started earlier last week while he was keeping to his regular schedule. He'd gone to the hospital for a regular check on his chemotherapy treatment. His doctors decided to keep him in the hospital where he's receiving an antibiotic and intravenous fluids.
The 77-year-old spiritual leader recently started another round of chemotherapy to address signs of cancer returning to the area around his right kidney.
