Centralia Man Arrested for Multiple Burglaries After Leaving Sandals at Crime SceneA 20-year-old Centralia man has been arrested on multiple burglary charges after a Retired Centralia Police Lieutenant broke up a burglary in process in his garage. Centralia Police say Bruce Humphrey woke up around 2:30 Monday morning and saw two people inside his garage. The two fled on foot when police arrived. One of them, identified as Dereck Woods of South Walnut in Centralia, was apprehended and taken to the Marion County Jail. The second successfully got away. In addition to breaking into Humphrey's garage, Woods has been charged in Marion County Court with burglary to two vehicles entered at the Juan Villalobos home next door. Police also filed information for criminal trespass to another neighbor's home. They report an apparent burglary attempt at the Isaac Finley residence was unsuccessful. Woods was tied to that case after apparently leaving behind a pair of sandals.
Centralia Police say it is unclear if four other vehicles reported burglarized in a different part of town early Monday morning are related. Two of the victims reported valuable trading cards were stolen.
Police once again are encouraging people to lock their vehicles. They note in virtually all the recent vehicle burglary cases they were not locked.
