Centralia Man Charged With Criminal Sexual Assault and Aggravated Domestic Battery
Jamie Merritt of East Second is accused of forcing a female acquaintance to commit a sex act with him on May fourth. He is charged at the same time with committing an aggravated domestic battery for allegedly impeding the woman's normal breathing by applying pressure to her neck.
Centralia Police reports indicate Merritt had already left the woman's residence when she called to report the incident. He was found walking along Wabash Avenue in Wamac last Thursday. Wamac Police transported him to the Centralia Police Department where he was arrested on the pending charges.
Merritt had the public defender appointed to represent him. A preliminary hearing in the case is set for May 28th.
