Centralia Man Receives Minor Injuries After Brief Police Chase

By Bruce Kropp, WJBD News

A 38-year-old Centralia man is in custody on multiple charges after a four block long chase Saturday morning ended in a crash.  Centralia Police arrested Muriel Givens of North Pine in Centralia for fleeing and eluding police, no valid drivers license, driving an uninsured vehicle and on an outstanding Illinois Department of Corrections warrant.

The chase began when police tried to stop Givens at 4th and Lincoln.  As Givens attempted to make the turn from 4th to South Perrine, he apparently lost control of the car and slammed into a tree at 415 South Perrine.   Givens was initially taken to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries before being taken to the Marion County Jail where he remained on Sunday.

Centralia Police also ticketed the owner of the car.  40-year-old Donna Campbell of South Maple in Centralia was ticketed for permitting an unauthorized person to drive.
