Evergreen Christian Church's 'Serve Salem' Event Kicks Off Sunday

By Rob Sussman, WJBD News

The Evergreen Christian Church's second annual "Serve Salem" service event kicks off this Sunday at 8:00. Church members and volunteers will be doing maintainence, landscaping, cleaning yards, painting, giving away clothing, and cooking for various individuals and organizations throughout the day. Church spokesman Jim Koehler says it's all about helping those in need.

"[It's] part of the outreach of evergreen christian into our own community. We want to help out those who can't quite get everything done by themselves" said Koehler.

Volunteers will be giving away backpacks full of school supplies at the church, cooking meals for Nursing Home Employees and residents, giving away clothing and household items at the church between 8:30am and 1:00pm, and holding a church service and meal at the Lifeboat Alliance Homeless Shelter in Mt. Vernon.

If you have questions, contact the church at 548-4438.
