One Benton Man Killed, Another Critically Injured in Florida ExplosionA Southern Illinois man has been killed and a second has been injured in an explosion over the weekend in the Florida Panhandle.
Okaloosa County sheriff's officials say 35-year-old Michael Todd Brower of Benton was killed and his brother-in-law, 58-year-old Luis Lopez, was critically injured. Lopez is a pediatrician from Benton who works at the Marion Heartland Pediatric Clinic.
The two were at Lopez's vacation home in Destin on Saturday night when a car parked outside exploded. Officials think the explosion was related to acetylene torches they had rented to work on the home. The gas is used for welding and soldering.
The Florida State Fire Marshall's office reports the explosion was accidental and there were no indication of foul play.
