Rural Carlyle Man Dies in ATV AccidentA 47-year-old rural Carlyle man has died in a weekend ATV accident.
Clinton County Coroner Phil Moss pronounced Kevin Simonton dead on the scene of the accident on the Pollman Road near the Camp Joy Road intersection in rural Bartelso. Moss says Simonton died from severe head and chest injuries.
The coroner says Simonton apparently lost control of his side by side, struck a tree, was hit in the chest by the steering wheel and was then ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a helmet. Simonton was traveling alone. The wreck was discovered at 11:28 Saturday night by a passer by. Moss says it is unclear when the accident actually occurred. Moss says Simonton had been riding with others, but had decided to return home early. He reports the others didn't find Simonton because they took a different route.
Funeral services for Simonton, who worked at his family's sawmill and lumber company, are pending.
Bartelso First Responders, Medstar Ambulance Service and Clinton County Emergency Management Agency all responded to the scene along with Clinton County Sheriff's Deputies.
