SIU Stranded After Loss to Illinois StateTUSCOLA, Ill. (AP) - Southern Illinois' men's basketball team is making new travel plans after its bus got stuck in the snow on a bitterly cold Sunday night in the Midwest.
The Salukis were on their way home after a 66-48 loss at Illinois State when their bus was stranded right off Interstate 57. Assistant coach Anthony Beane Sr. tells The Southern Illinoisan no one was injured and the plan was for the team to spend the night at a hotel in nearby Tuscola.
Head coach Barry Hinson and assistant Tom Hankins were not with the team. They were traveling in a rental car.
Beane and the players had to wait for a tow truck to get the bus out of the snow. Beane tells the newspaper that if a truck was unable to reach the bus, the Illinois State Police had agreed to help the team get to its hotel.
