Suburban Chicago Man Challenges Durbin for Senate

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (AP) - A 43-year-old Downers Grove man is making a Republican bid for U.S. Senate.

Doug Truax says he is comfortable in the role of the underdog and is ready to challenge Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin, of Springfield. Durbin is the Senate's No. 2 Democrat and is serving his third term.  Truax has no prior political experience.

The married father of three co-owns and manages a health care consulting firm. Born and raised in New Mexico, he's a West Point graduate and spent six years on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Army.   Truax is making his formal campaign announcement Monday.

Durbin, 68, has won his last three terms by wide margins.
