Three Hurt in Crash On North Broadway in SalemThree people were injured in a two car crash on North Broadway at the William Street intersection early Wednesday night.
Salem Police say a southbound car driven by 77-year-old June Allison of South Broadway in Salem made a left turn in front of a northbound SUV driven by 54-year-old Cheryl Olafsson of East Lyford in Salem. The impact caused the Olafsson jeep to roll over on the driver's side. Both drivers along with a passenger in the Olafsson vehicle, 23-year-old Cory Pitts of East Lyford in Salem, were injured and taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment.
Salem Fire Protection District firemen had to extricate Olafsson and Pitts from the vehicle. Firemen had to cut the roof open. A medical helicopter had originally been dispatched to the scene, but it was later cancelled. Allison was ticketed for failure to yield when turning left.
The wreck occurred at 6:46 Wednesday night. Traffic had to be detoured off North Broadway for about 45 minutes. The Salem Emergency Management Agency and Marion County Sheriff's Department assisted with traffic control.
