Two Injured in Motorcycle Wreck in Salem Parking Lot

By Bruce Kropp, WJBD News

Two people were injured when the operator of a motorcycle laid the bike down in the Westgate Shopping Center Parking lot to apparently avoid hitting another vehicle.

The driver of the cycle, 43-year-old Ray Allen Phillips of North Miller in Salem, and passenger, 34-year-old Jennifer Lance of the same address, were both taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment.

Salem Police say Phillips had just pulled out of a parking space in front of Dollar General when a vehicle several spaces away also backed out of a parking space and didn't see the motorcycle.  Phillips reported as he tried to stop to avoid hitting the car the brakes locked up and the cycle skidded to a stop on its side.   Police say there was no contact between the cycle and the car driven by 71-year-old Billie Keller of Swan Road in Iuka.

No tickets were issued.  The incident occurred at 2:40 Monday afternoon.
