Centralia Boys Now Tied For 9th In AP Top Ten Basketball PollThe 14-1Centralia Orphans fell to a tie for ninth in the AP Top Ten high school boys basketball teams in Class 3A this week. The Orphans had been fourth last week, but suffered their first loss of the year last week when they fell to Belleville Althoff. The Class 3A Poll is led by Springfield Lanphier, which is 15 and O. They received 14 of the 17 votes for first place and 119 points overall. Lincoln is second and Morgan Park third. Centralia is tied in ninth place with Rockford Lutheran. Both tallied 29 points. Belleville Althoff received 22 votes and Carbondale 17 votes, not enough to earn a Top 10 position.
Marian Catholic (Chicago Heights) tops the poll for Class 4A teams, Rockridge is first in 2A and Payson-Seymour is first in 1A. Teutopolis is rated 8th in Class 2A.
In the AP Top Ten girls poll, Breese Central is ranked second in the state behind Champaign St. Thomas More in Class 2A. St. Thomas More received 12 votes for first place and a total of 138 points. Breese Central had two first place votes and 128 total votes. Breese moved up one position from last week. Nashville is now ranked third with 102 points, also up one position. Teutopolis fell from second to fourth place, with 87 points.
In Class 4A, Homewood-Flossmoor is rated number one. In Class 3A, Montini has the position and in 1A Annawan is the number one team.
