Fourth Quarter Lifts Orphans to Shrine Game WinCentralia Sophomore quarterback Broderic Green connected with Shandon Webster for a touchdown and Matese Scott ran for two scores in the fourth quarter as the Orphans took control of a back-and-forth game, winning the 61st Annual Shrine Game 34-14 Friday night at Jim Finks Field in Salem.
Scott finished the night with 173 yards on nineteen carries, adding a third touchdown in the third quarter. Green went 14 for 26 with two touchdowns, both to Webster. Green threw one interception and had a fumble.
Salem had chances to build a more substantial lead and also make a comeback, but the offense was stymied by missed opportunities or Orphan defense.
Salem got on the board first late in the first quarter when Paul Moskal crossed the plane for a one-yard score. Moskal had the Wildcats' other touchdown, a three-yard run late in the third quarter. That score put Salem up 14-12. But the Orphans dominated the fourth quarter. Moskal finished the night with 81 yards on 22 carries.
The Orphans host Bethalto-Civic Memorial next Friday. The Wildcats travel to Clifton Central next Saturday.
