Lady Cats Golf Team Third in OpenerThe Salem Community High School girls’ golf team opened
their season Thursday at the Charleston Scramble.
The scramble took place on the front nine of Charleston Country
Club, which is a par 36.
It was a two person scramble, where the top two pairs
combine for a team total.
Salem placed third out of eleven teams with an 80. St Anthony
won with 77 and Charleston was second with 79.
Morgan Thompson and Mallory Daniels finished the match tied
with their teammates Megan Gallatin & Brooke Frederick. Both pairs shot a
40. Thompson and Daniels earned the fifth place medals after a scorecard
playoff. Gallatin, a sophomore, won the most accurate drive contest, landing
within inches of the line. Haley Gallatin & Emily Baer combined to finish
the match with a 46.
Coach Megan Kessler was happy with her team’s season-opening
“I'm very pleased with our performance tonight. I thought we
struck the ball well and played relaxed, especially since we are so young. We played
two seniors and four sophomores tonight. I think a scramble is a great
way to start the season off!”
The Lady Wildcat Golf Team returns to action Monday at Cardinal Golf Course in
Effingham to play Teutopolis. The Wildcat boys’ golf team will also be in
action against Teutopolis Monday, their first competition of the season.
