Lady Cats Start Season with Win

The Salem Lady Wildcat volleyball team made short work of their

season-opening opponent, defeating Teutopolis in two quick sets.

In a match that took just over thirty minutes to complete, Salem topped T-Town 25-10, 25-15.

Brianna

Ashby led Salem in service points with thirteen. Anissa Rasul paced the

squad with seven digs. Kaitlyn Jett added six. Kyla Cook had 18 assists

while attacks were spread pretty evenly.

Salem Head coach Sherry Cook was pleased with the way the Lady Cats played in the season opener.

"They

played really well. I'm disappointed in our service errors. We had too

many of them. But they didn't let that bother them. They kept swinging.

Our variety of hits was really good tonight. Our passing wasn't too bad.

Our serve receive was hard to tell because [T-Town] missed a lot of

serves."

Cook said the girls were ready to play their first game.

"It

was just good to have a game finally. You can only practice so many

times and practice gets old. You play the same people every day. To put

somebody else there, to be able to run things that the other team hasn't

seen before and have success with that, that's exciting to see."

Salem is back home at BE Gumm Tuesday night when the Lady Cats host Carlyle.
