Lady Cougar Comeback Bid Falls Short

Two runs in the fourth inning proved to be the difference in

the South Central softball team’s 5-4 loss to Effingham St. Anthony Wednesday.

The Lady Cougars took a 3-2 lead in the third inning but St.

Anthony scored three unanswered runs over the next four innings to secure a

lead. South Central scored one run in the bottom of the seventh but was unable

to tie the game or win in walk-off fashion.

Abby King pitched for the Lady Cougars, tossing six innings

and giving up five runs on seven hits. Three runs were earned. King walked four

and struck out three.

King helped herself at the plate, going 2-4 with a pair of

singles, an RBI, and scoring a run. Macie Cain, Bailey Ritter, and Sierra Gunnels

also had two hits apiece.

South Central is 3-10 overall and 2-4 in the NTC.

The Lady

Cougars face the Windsor/St. Elmo loser Friday.
