Local Athletes in Charleston for State Meet

The 2A State Track and Field Meet gets underway today at

Eastern Illinois University.

Two Salem Wildcats and a Centralia Orphan are among the

athletes competing for a state title.

Tyler Jourdan won the pole vault last week at the Salem

Sectional, clearing fifteen feet. That guaranteed the Salem junior a spot at

the state meet.

Jourdan will be joined by recent Salem graduate Matt Hahn,

who qualified in both the discus and the shot put. Hahn’s toss of 153’ 5” was

good for third place last Thursday. Hahn placed fourth in the shot at 51’ 2 ½”

to qualify in that event.

Centralia’s Rashad Campbell placed third in the shot

put with a mark of 55’9” and was the lone Orphan to qualify for the state meet.
