Mater Dei Ends Lady Wildcat Season

The Salem Lady Wildcats season came to an end Tuesday at Kaskaskia College when Mater Dei claimed a 9-0 victory to advance to the Centralia 3A regional final on Saturday.

The Lady Knights got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when lead-off hitter Shannon Schutz doubled and scored two batters later. Mater Dei added runs in the second, third, fourth, and sixth innings. The fifth and sixth frames were the only ones where Mater Dei lead-off hitters were retired.

Mater Dei had thirteen hits against Salem pitcher Mallory Daniels. Daniels issued one walk and struck out two in the conclusion of her freshman year.

Salem had just four hits, and never got a base runner past second base. Heather Henson and Kelly Sager each had hits. Megan Holenhour and Kaitlynn Ruscher had back-to-back singles in the fifth inning.

Salem finishes its season with a 12-21 record.
