Orphans Top South 7 Field In Preview TournamentMT VERNON - Jace Swartzlander carved out a 74 on the Green Hills course to help the Centralia Orphans to a 310 total and a 10 stroke margin of victory at the South 7 Conference Preview Tournament. SwarTzlander was runner up to medalist Brendan Lewis of Marion who shot a 73. Miles Burrus and Brandon Middleton added 78s and Matt Dobbs had an 80 as did freshman Caleb Urshan. Rounding out the Orphans scores was Ethan Burrus with an 83. Althoff runner up shooting a 320, Mt Vernon 3rd with a 336, followed by Marion and Carbondale with 337 and 380 respectively.
Mater Dei won a boys golf match with Christ Our Rock Lutheran at Bent Oak in Breese. Trevor Gerdes led the Knights with a 41, Noah Gerdes and Tyler Goebel each had 42s and Chase Henrichs a 43. For the Stallions, Lucas Weseel had a 44, Eli Palm 45, Mitchell Kroeger 46 and Eli Simpson 54.
The Wesclin Warriors got a 44 from both senior Mike Thoele and junior Thomas Taglieri on their way to a 184-195 win over the Freeburg Midgets.
Today on the boys golf schedule, Centralia will play at the Alton Tee Off Classic starting at 1. Greenville is at Wesclin and Benton at Mt Vernon.
