Salem Beats East in OvertimeThe Salem Lady Wildcats improved to 2-0 after a back and forth contest against Belleville East resulted in a 53-48 overtime win for the hosts of the 13th Annual Lady Wildcat Thanksgiving Tournament.
Salem trailed the Lancers 14-8 after the first quarter but grabbed a 25-23 lead at halftime. Belleville East regained the lead after the third quarter before the Lady Cats forced the overtime period. The score was 44-44 at the end of regulation, but Salem scored nine points to East's four to claim the win.
The Lady Wildcats were sparked in the second quarter by sophomore Emily Baer, who had eight of her fourteen points in the frame. Salem was led by Kyla Cook, who finished with seventeen points, including nine in the fourth quarter as the Lady Cats came back to force overtime. Sophomore Dearria Watson finished with nine points off the bench for Salem.
The 2-0 Lady Cats have secured a spot in next weekend's championship bracket before facing Civic Memorial at 8:30 tonight. The game can be heard on AM 1350 WJBD and WJBDRadio.com.
