Salem Falls to Green Wave

The Salem Lady Wildcat volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to Mattoon Thursday night.

The scores were 20-25, 25-15, 25-10.

After winning the first set, Salem failed to maintain the momentum in the second set, and the Lady Cats never got it back.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Sherry Cook was pleased with her team's resilience, noting they competed to the end.

"Mattoon's a good team. We played much better against them in the second game even though it was lopsided. At Charleston, we really struggled in the second game and totally lost it. Here, at least against Mattoon, we didn't roll over and die."

Haylee Nielson and Amber Hays each had five kills. Bethany Meyer was 11 of 12 from the service line.

Salem returns to action on Monday at Newton for the Volley for a Cure game with the Lady Eagles.
