Salem Falls to Herrin 41-48 in Pyramid Plus TournamentThe Salem Wildcats dropped their final game against the Herrin Tigers at the Pyramid Plus Tournament Saturday with a final score of 41-48. Both the Wildcats and the Tigers finished the tournament with a 2-3 record.
The Wildcats led the game going into halftime with a score of 25-23, but the Tigers put an end to that in the third quarter and held on to defeat the Wildcats.
The Herrin Tigers were led in scoring by Josh Hays with 16 and Nick Rikers with 15 points. The Wildcats also had two players in double figures with Chase Mercer with 12 and Nick Conklin finishing with 10 points.
Despite the loss, Salem players Mercer and Conklin were both nominated to the All Tournament Team.
The Salem Wildcats will face the Mascoutah Indians in their first home game on Tuesday, December 3rd.
The Mt. Vernon Rams wrapped up their play in the Pyramid Plus Tournament on Saturday night with a perfect 5-0 run with a 77-39 victory over Soldan. Shakari Hawkins led Mt. Vernon with 26 points. He finishes the first five games of the season with 116 points.
In the other game in the final day of play at Pyramid Plus, Marion edged past Collinsville 61-60.
