Salem Jr Legion Looks To Advance Today In Mt Vernon

MT VERNON - Salem Post 128 Jr Legion survived a pair of elimination games yesterday at the District 23 Tournament and will play for the loser's bracket title tonight at 5pm when they get a rematch with Mt Vernon following their loss to Breese Gray last night.  Gray advances to Teutopolis to the District Tournament Finals starting tomorrow.

    Salem opened yesterday with a 9-2 win over Breese Red behind a solid outing from Dalton Courtright.  Salem led 3-2 midway through the game but exploded for 4 runs in the 5th and another 2 in the sixth to pull away for the win.  Max Phillips had 2 hits and 3 RBI for Salem and also worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning.

    Salem then took on Carlyle and behind another solid start, this time from Sedrick Hill, Salem pulled away for a 7-2 win.  Trevor Banning threw the 7th inning.  The win put's Salem in a position to send their ace Riley Martin to the hill today in a rematch with Mt Vernon, a team Salem fell 3-1 to in the 2nd game of the tournament.  Game time tonight is at 5pm.
