Salem Makes It Six in a RowSalem topped Carbondale for the first time in four years with a 69-59 road win Monday night.
The Lady Wildcats overcame a slow start, scoring twelve of the final sixteen points in the first quarter. After gaining a lead in the frame's final moments, Salem never relinquished it. The Lady Cats received ten points in the first quarter from senior Kyla Cook. Sophomore Dearria Watson added ten more in the second frame as Salem built a 38-25 halftime lead. The interior quarters also saw junior Shelby Holst step out and hit four three pointers.
both Salem and Carbondale scored fifteen points in the third quarter, but Salem went 12-of-15 from the foul line in the fourth frame to keep the Lady Terriers out of reach.
Watson finished with twenty points to lead Salem. Holst ended up with eighteen points after going 6-for-6 from the foul line. Cook added twelve points in the wins.
After winning their sixth straight game and seventh of their last ten, the Lady Cats close out the regular season Thursday at Mater Dei.
