Salem's Big Day At The Plate Earn Them First Win Of The Season Over OdinSALEM - The Salem Lady Wildcats had been in a slump offensively to start their season. With losses to Carterville, Carmi-White County and T-Town, Salem has been unable to explode with the big inning, they did so in every inning on Wednesday afternoon in a 16-2, five-inning win over visiting Odin at Tully Park.
Salem (1-3) had 15 hits to Odin's 4 in the win and the defense committed just 1 error behind starting and winning pitcher Mallory Daniels who threw 5 innings, allowed 1 earned run on 4 hits, walked 1 and struck out 5.
At the plate she had plenty of support.
"Eight of our 9 starters had hits and 5 had 2 or more," added head coach James Holsapple who was pleased to see his team finally live up to their offensive expectations.
Daniels and Heather Henson each had 3 hits. Daniels went 3-4 with an inside-the-park home run and 2 RBI. Henson also added a home run and drove in 5. Taylor Jones, Kelly Sager and Ashley West each had 2 hits.
Sager drove home 4 runs and West added 3 more RBI. Salem was also 6-for-6 in stolen bases.
Bailey Spears had 2 hits and a RBI for the Lady Eagles who dropped to 2-2 on the season.
The Lady Cats will be back at Tully Park on Friday in a makeup game with Nashville.
