Wildcats in Greenville TodayThe Salem Wildcats are back on the field today as they
travel to Greenville for the Ish Smith Classic.
The Wildcats will be in action against Vandalia and Red Bud
in Greenville’s yearly baseball invitational.
Salem is coming off a 5-4 home loss to Centralia on
Wednesday. It was a game the Cats led 4-2 until the seventh inning, when the
Orphans tied the contest and forced extra innings.
Despite the loss, Salem knocked the rust off the bats and
hit the ball well. The Wildcats also had good outings from their pitchers. Zach
Tate threw seven innings in a no-decision. Wyatt McGhee allowed just one hit
and struck out two in his long inning of work, but that hit was an RBI double
that ended up being the game-winner for Centralia.
Salem’s Thursday games against Woodlawn and Flora were
rained out. The Wildcats are looking for a late-season surge with the regional
tournament starting in less than two weeks.
