California Rim Fire Now 80 Percent Contained
(GROVELAND, Calif.) -- The massive wildfire in California is now 80 percent contained, authorities say.
Some businesses near Yosemite National Park will reopen in the coming days, but many of them lost a lot of money while the rim fire burned over 400 acres in the past month. The fire is the third-largest in California history, says the Los Angeles Times.
Scientists will hike into the damaged areas this weekend and begin critical work protecting natural habitats and waterways before the rainy fall begins.
Yosemite Valley will be open for the first time since the fire started on August 17, though a 14-mile stretch of highway is closed within the park.
