Jury Reaches Verdict in Jodi Arias Murder Trial

ABC News(PHOENIX) -- The jury deliberating in the murder trial of Jodi Arias has reached a verdict, court officials said Wednesday.

The verdict will be announced in court at 4:30 p.m. Eastern time.

Arias, 32, is charged with first-degree murder for killing her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander in June 2008, in which she allegedly stabbed him 27 times, shot him in the head, and slit his throat.

She could face the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder.

Arias claims that she killed Alexander in self-defense after he flew into a violent rage during an argument in his Mesa, Ariz., home. Her attorneys have tried to convince the jury to find Arias guilty of manslaughter instead of murder.

Testimony in the trial lasted four months, beginning in January, and wrapped up on Friday, May 3.

The jury, made up of eight men and four women, have been deliberating for two and a half days.
