Stranded Family Survives Arctic-Like Cold in Northern Nevada

(RENO, Nev.) -- A missing family of six was found alive Tuesday after surviving two days in snow and brutal Nevada cold.

There was celebration and relief in the snowy Nevada mountains where search and rescue crews found alive the two adults and their four children under the age of 10.

The family told rescuers their car hit an embankment and flipped. Missing since Sunday in very cold conditions, they built fires and sheltered in their flipped vehicle to stay warm.

They insisted they could hear whistles being blown by search and rescue teams and they could see helicopters, but they had no way of getting the rescuers' attention.

Authorities say, fortunately, the family was found in good spirits, and doctors say they do not have frostbite.
