49ers' Jim Harbaugh Gives Update on Michael Crabtree

Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Even before the San Francisco 49ers reported to training camp, they were dealing with an injury to one of their best players as wide receiver Michael Crabtree tore his right Achilles tendon during the offseason. His head coach, Jim Harbaugh, says Crabtree is recovering nicely.

"I wouldn't categorize it as 'ahead of schedule' because he is just starting to move on it," Harbaugh said of Crabtree's recovery on Monday. "It's just been healing but it looks great. That's from the words of the doctors, so again, optimistic there."

During a practice on May 21, Crabtree suffered the injury and is in the process of rehabbing and working his way back on the field.

Crabtree is the 49ers primary receiving threat on offense, and his absense could have a severe effect on the team's ability to put points on the board. Crabtree's fourth NFL season was his best of his pro career. In 2013, he caught 85 passes for 1,105 yards while catching nine touchdowns.

During the offseason, the team traded for wide receiver Anquan Boldin, and hope that last year's first round pick, A.J. Jenkins, will emerge as the team's number two receiver.

"I really feel like they're making progress," Harbaugh responded when asked about the other wide receivers aside from Boldin. "I feel good about where that stands right now."
