Angels' Ryan Madson Thinks He Should Be Allowed to Use HGH

Rob Carr/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Los Angeles Angels' closer Ryan Madson hasn't thrown a pitch since the 2011 season due to Tommy John surgery. Frustrated with his lack of recovery, Madson thinks he should be able to take regulated doses of HGH to help his recovery.

Following the 2011 season with the Philadelphia Phillies, Madson signed a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Reds. But Madson wound up undergoing Tommy John surgery and missed the entire season. He was expected to be ready to play this season and signed a contract with the Angels, but he's experienced complications and hasn't played for the team yet.

Madson feels that if he were able to take HGH under a doctor's care, it would make a world of difference.

"If HGH were legal," Madson said, "just in the process of healing, under a doctor's recommendation, in the right dosage, while you're on the [disabled list], I don't think that's such a bad idea -- as long as it doesn't have any lasting side effects, negative side effects."

Madson went on to say that even if he never is allowed to use HGH, it should still be legal because of its ability to make people heal faster.

In his final season in Philadelphia, Madson saved 32 games with a 2.37 ERA.
