Chris Davis Hits MLB-Leading 31st Home Run in Orioles Win

Patrick Smith/Getty Images(BALTIMORE) -- Chris Davis hit his major-league-leading 31st home run Sunday night, helping the Baltimore Orioles double up the New York Yankees, 4-2.

Davis' home run broke Brady Anderson's franchise record for most home runs before the All-Star break.

The win also gave the Orioles their first three-game sweep of the Yankees since 2005.

"I think it's always a statement whenever you sweep anybody," Davis said. "I think it's been big for us. I think it's our first one this year. We've always put emphasis on winning series and making sure we at least win the majority of the games, but when you can get a sweep, especially against a team in the division, it's huge."

Orioles starting pitcher Chris Tillman (10-2) pitched six innings, allowing two runs while striking out six, as he won his sixth straight start.

The Orioles (47-36) remain 2.5 games behind Boston for first in the AL East.
