Chris Paul 'Excited' to Play for Rivers
(LOS ANGELES) -- Days away from officially re-joining the Los Angeles Clippers, Chris Paul is thrilled about the opportunity to play for new Clipper coach, Doc Rivers.
"I'm so excited to play for him," Paul said. "Words can't describe it. Doc is amazing. Everything that has happened doesn't automatically translate into wins but it gives you an opportunity to win so I'm excited about the process."
Paul, who verbally agreed to a five-year $107 million extension on July 1, the day NBA free agency began, cannot officially sign the contract until Wednesday.
With the frenzy of NBA free agency over the last week, Paul decided to get things done quickly knowing all along where he wanted to be.
"For me, I felt like if I knew where I wanted to be and what I was going to do, why take the time and waste those other teams' time and have them spending unnecessary money," Paul said. "We just wanted to be done with it."
The Clippers are expected to announce the Paul deal, along with introducing new head coach Doc Rivers, on Wednesday, July 10, at a press conference at the organization's training facility.
Rivers spent the last nine seasons coaching the Boston Celtics, where he led the organization to the 2007-08 NBA title.
