Chris Paul Officially Re-Signs with Clippers

NBA via Los Angeles Clippers (LOS ANGELES) --  Chris Paul wasted no time in signing his new contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Paul signed his new five-year, $107 million deal at midnight eastern time on Wednesday, right when the league's free agency moratorium was lifted and players were allowed to officially sign with teams.

The deal also has an opt-out clause after four seasons.  Any questions of Paul leaving Los Angeles were wiped away when the team hired Doc Rivers to be their next head coach.  Paul expressed a desire to play for Rivers when Vinny Del Negro was fired after the season.

Along with Rivers, the Clippers rehauled their roster this offseason and believe that they have the personnel to compete for an NBA championship.  Aside from signing Paul, the team has reportedly added role players Jared Dudley, J.J. Redick, Darren Collison, Ryan Hollins and Matt Barnes through trades and free agency this offseason.

The 28-year-old Paul averaged 16.9 points and 9.7 assists last season for the Clippers, leading the team to the playoffs. They were eliminated in the first round by the Memphis Grizzlies.
