David Ortiz Named World Series MVP

G. Fiume/Getty Images(BOSTON) --  The Boston Red Sox capped off a postseason for the ages when they topped the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series, but they may not have been as fortunate without Big Papi.

Designated hitter David Ortiz was named World Series MVP after batting an astounding .688 against the Cardinals with two home runs and six RBIs.

"I know I'm one of the forces for this ballgame and I like to take things personal," Ortiz said. "And that's been my whole career, a challenge.  "I wasn't trying to be the guy, but I know I got to get something done to keep the line moving. I don't even have to do anything today, I guess, the rest of the team took over."

Ortiz is now a three-time World Series champion, and one of the most important members of the Red Sox.

"He just keeps writing new chapters," general manager Ben Cherington. "I know great players are great, are more likely to be great in any moment but it's hard to see him in those moments and not think that there's something different about him.  He's locked in"
