Dolphins Romp Jets 23-3

Scott Boehm/Getty Images(EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) --  It has been a rough month for the Miami Dolphins, but with four games remaining this season they remain in the playoff hunt.

Ryan Tannehill threw for 331 yards and two touchdowns as the Dolphins routed the New York Jets 23-3 at MetLife Stadium.

The win improves Miami to 6-6 and ties them with the Baltimore Ravens for the final wild-card spot in the AFC.

"December is where you either step up or fall down," Tannehill said. "We knew that coming in. I think the guys are ready to buckle down and take it one game at a time."

The Dolphins were able to step up defensively as well, driving Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith from the game by halftime.  Smith finished with 29 passing yards and one interception before conceding the snaps to Matt Simms.

"It was an awful performance by us," coach Rex Ryan said. "We got outplayed in all three phases of the game, and I know our fans deserved a hell of a lot better than that.

The Jets (5-7) have lost three in a row, and Ryan has yet to name a starting quarterback for next week's game against the Oakland Raiders.

"I can't answer that question right now," Ryan said when he was asked about it after the game. "We need to see it and get everybody's opinion and do what we think is in the best interest of our team.
