Dwight Howard to Join Houston Rockets

Doug Pensinger/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Dwight Howard will have a new home in Houston next season.  Howard announced on Friday night that he will sign with the Houston Rockets.

The announcement comes after he met with the Rockets and four other teams (Lakers, Mavericks, Warriors, Hawks) on Monday and Tuesday.

"I've decided to become a member of the Houston Rockets. I feel its the best place for me and I am excited about joining the Rockets and I'm looking forward to a great season. I want to thank the fans in Los Angeles and wish them the best," Howard tweeted on Friday.

This comes after Howard spent one season in Los Angeles with the Lakers.  All five teams did their best to sway the All-Star center, but in the end Howard chose Houston.

"Naturally we're disappointed," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said in a statement on the team's website on Friday. "However, we will now move forward in a different direction with the future of the franchise and, as always, will do our best to build the best team possible, one our great Lakers fans will be proud to support. To Dwight, we thank him for his time and consideration, and for his efforts with us last season. We wish him the best of luck on the remainder of his NBA career."

Houston can offer Howard $88 million over four years, but the deal will have to wait until Wednesday for it to be official.
