Eagles' Quarterback Matt Barkley Putting Draft Woes Behind Him

Stephen Dunn/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- If former USC quarterback Matt Barkley had declared for the 2012 NFL Draft, he likely would have been a top-10 pick. But he stayed in school and wound up being drafted in the fourth-round in the 2013 NFL Draft. Now that he's in the NFL, he's putting his draft-day plunge behind him.

"I just want to win," Barkley told CSNPhilly.com. "A lot goes into that, and I think if the quarterback is playing great football, then your team is going to win. I just want to be part of the culture and I think Coach Kelly and I have similar beliefs on what it takes to have a winning culture football team."

During his 2011 season, Barkley threw 39 touchdowns and was widely considered the best quarterback prospect in the country. But Barkley passed up the NFL and came back for his senior year. It did not go the way Barkley hoped as he and the team struggled. His touchdowns, completion percentage and passing yards all dropped.

Barkley is expected to compete for the starting job along with Michael Vick and Nick Foles.
