J.A. Happ Released From Hospital After Line Drive to Head

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ was hit in the head by a Desmond Jennings line drive and was taken off the field on a stretcher in a 6-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

The ball hit off the left side of Happ's head and rolled down the right-field line.  He dropped on the mound and immediately put his head in his hands.

"It's devastating...I could barely watch it," fellow Blue Jays pitcher R.A. Dickey said. "You just don't know what to think, really. It paralyzes you a little bit. And when it sounds like two bats, when you hear the sound off the bat and it sounds like it hits another bat, it's scary. It's really, really scary. I just started praying in the spot. That's all I knew to do."

Happ was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was in stable condition overnight and released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
