Lakers Sign Guard Nick Young
(LOS ANGELES) -- In hopes of adding some much-needed offense, the Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard Nick Young to a one-year deal.
"At 6'7", Nick's size, ability to create his own shot and athleticism make him a versatile player who will give our lineup multiple looks on the floor," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said. "He's an exciting player, and we're excited to have him on our roster."
Young will serve as Kobe Bryant's backup, but could see major minutes until Bryant is full healed from a torn Achilles.
Last season with the Philadelphia 76ers, Young averaged 10.6 points off the bench and will serve as the team's primary scoring threat when he's on the floor.
Young's deal is reportedly for the veteran's minimum.
"It's great for Nick and great for the Lakers," Young's agent, Mark Bartelstein, told the Los Angeles Times. "He could've waited and got more money in the free-agent market but his dream has always been to play for the Lakers."
The Lakers also recently brought back guard Jordan Farmar and are said to be interested in Lamar Odom.
