Matt Harvey, Max Scherzer Named Starters for All-Star Game

Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey will be the first pitcher in nine years to start the All-Star Game in his home park.

Harvey was announced the starter for the National League in Tuesday's All-Star Game at Citi Field and Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer will get the nod for the American League.

The last pitcher to start in the All-Star Game at home was Roger Clemens in 2004 for the Astros.

Harvey is 7-2 this season for the Mets and has a 2.35 ERA with 147 strikeouts.  He has also flirted with three no-hitters.

"It was a role I wanted to take and something I took pride in," Harvey said. "Having this opportunity and getting the nod is one step closer. I'm very proud of it, and obviously it's more drive to keep going and hopefully not make this my last All-Star Game."

Scherzer is 13-1 with a 3.19 ERA and suffered his first loss of the season on Saturday against Texas.
