NBA via Chicago Bulls(DENVER) -- With the Denver Nuggets hoping to keep their head above water in the competitive Western Conference, they've lost reserve guard Nate Robinson for the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee.

Robinson suffered the injury during the first quarter of the team's game against the Charlotte Bobcats Wednesday night. Team physician Dr. Steve Traina performed the surgery Friday.

"It's always tough to see one of your players go down with an injury," Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly said in a statement. "Nate is known for his heart and determination, so I have no doubt he will work hard to get back on the court as soon as possible. He has the full support of our team and organization."

Since joning the Nuggets in the offseason, the 29-year-old Robinson has been one of teh team's more productive role players in a scoring role.

In 44 games this season, Robinson averaged 10.4 points per game in 19.7 minutes per game for Denver.
