Pau Gasol Announces He's Signing with the Bulls
(NEW YORK) -- The free agent dominos have begun to fall in the NBA. Free agent forward/center Pau Gasol has announced via Twitter that he will sign with the Chicago Bulls.
"It hasn't been easy. After meditating it a lot I've chosen to play with the Chicago Bulls. Looking forward to this new chapter of my career," Gasol Tweeted on Saturday.
The 34-year-old Gasol spent over six seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, and helped lead them to two NBA Championships.
Aside from top-tier guys like Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony, Gasol was one of the top names out there on the free agent market.
While he's struggled with durability issues the past couple seasons, he remains one of the better all-around big men and should mesh nicely with All-Star center Joakim Noah.
In 60 games for the Lakers this past season, Gasol averaged 17.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game.
The Bulls have to decide by Wednesday whether nor not they will amnesty forward Carlos Boozer or find a trade destination for him so that they can fit Gasol's contract under the salary cap.
