Red Sox Designate OF Grady Sizemore for Assignment

iStockphoto(BOSTON) -- The Boston Red Sox designated outfielder Grady Sizemore for assignment, the club announced on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old Sizemore batted .216 with 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 15 RBIs in 52 games for the Red Sox this season. Boston signed the three-time All-Star after he missed the last two seasons because of knee and back injuries.

Sizemore spent his first eight big league seasons (2004-2011) with the Cleveland Indians, where he hit .266 with 141 homers and 473 RBIs in 944 games. He also swiped 139 bases and scored 615 runs.

Boston recalled third baseman Garin Cecchini from Triple-A Pawtucket to take Sizemore’s spot on the 25-man roster.
