Report: A-Rod Could Be Back for Yankees Next Week

Rob Tringali/MLB Photos via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Third-baseman Alex Rodriguez could join the New York Yankees early next week, according to general manager Brian Cashman.

"That's the hope," general manager Brian Cashman said.

Rodriguez is scheduled to begin his final rehab assignments in Triple-A with the Scranton Railriders on Thursday. He will play four games with the Yankee farm team, concluding over the weekend.

"We have to get through the weekend, and then we will evaluate it," Cashman said.

Rodriguez, who began his 20-day minor league rehab assignment in Tampa, Fla., is allowed to come off the disabled list, July 22nd, when the Yankees travel to play the Texas Rangers.

The 37-year-old is 5-for-28 with one home run in the ten rehab games he has played so far.

The Yankees, who have been beset by injuries, open up the second half of the season friday night vs. their rivals, the Boston Red Sox.
